Shopping and relaxation in London

Considering that Peter and I went to bed earlier last night, we had a great and sound rest and managed to get up quite early on the subsequent day. We’d a good breakfast in our London flat terrace and right after two cups of hot tea we headed towards the Oxford Street, at the Westminster region. I ought to say that I’m very lucky that my life partner adores shopping, as I realize the majority of the guys dislike that.

Therefore, with Peter hand in hand, we visited various major department retailers, along with manufacturer stores. We spent most time in Selfridges – the second largest store in the UK, and Marks & Spencer retailer shop where we purchased many clothing. Peter additionally visited the large Nike retail store, whilst I examined the new assortment from Zara.

With arms full with hand bags we used the metro to our London holiday flat, where we had a quick snooze and a shower. In the early afternoon we went to visit the St. Paul’s Cathedral that was close to our holiday flat in London and after that went to the Hyde Park where we enjoyed the entire afternoon, because it was too hot to go on visiting sites tours.

Our last evening in London was very relaxing. Peter found a small and really romantic diner, where we had a dinner and a couple of glasses of wine. Following that we proceeded for a stroll along the south bank of the Thames River. It turned out this is very a pleasant place at night with lots of street entertainers, nice pubs and cafes. The area is also great for making photos, which we did and for relaxation and contemplating the river and the party boats floating by. After that we crossed the river using the Tower Bridge and took the metro back to our London holiday flat.

One day at London museums and galleries

We had an incredible sleep at the London residence and on the following morning Peter woke me up with a light bite and a very hot cup of chocolate and we managed to make plans for the remainder of the day. We had a good guide and made a wonderful stroll to the British Museum, where we decided to be our first stop. That museum really amazed me with its remarkable quantity of items. Peter read that there were shown at least 7 mil art pieces that originate from all continents. He liked most the authentic reading room, which is currently surrounded by the Great Court. We devote quality time in every one of the sections in the British Museum and my favorite one became the Department of Africa, Oceania and Americas, while Peter liked most the Department of Ancient Egypt and Sudan. Due to the fact it was definitely lunch, we ate at the museum restaurant and the food was good and at a fair cost.

Soon after lunch time we headed towards the National Gallery, which is set on the Trafalgar Square, neighboring the Nelson’s column with its 4 lions at its base. Just before getting into the gallery we created some photos of the monument of this fantastic soldier. Peter explained that it is right here that local people rejoice the New Year’s Eve and promised that we will come back one day to be a part of this celebration too.

At the National Gallery we noticed paintings from amazing artists such as Cezanne, Giotto, Velazquez, Titian, etc. Peter recommended we ought to purchase a few souvenirs for close friends and family from the gallery’s store and we did so, which turned to be a great idea, as afterwards everybody liked the present.

Our last stop for that day was the Tate Gallery, in which we found some contemporary pieces of art. The day was quite long and tiring, thus we spend the night in our London vacation property and went just for a small stroll immediately after dinner organized by me.

Honeymoon days in London, UK

After Peter offered me an engagement ring in Athens last year, I had not a clue that things will progress that soon and I was very pleased as soon as he said to me that he wants us to organize the wedding once doable, with no any delay. Thus, we started organizing the wedding ceremony and I devoted some weeks planning the honeymoon also, since Peter was really occupied with work. As soon as I suggested London as our first family getaway, he explained this is not the normal romantic destination, however when we were there he was disproved.

I really enjoy to visit London, as I really like its great atmosphere, the friendliness of the people, the great memorials and the busy cultural life. That was my 3rd time in the capital of the UK, but very first for my hubby Peter. As we arrived at our London residence and left the bags, we had a brief sleep and went for a stroll. We had many days and nights to spend here, so we were not in a hurry. That very first day I brought Peter to the Tower of London, one of the key landmarks of the city, set on the northern bank of Thames River. We needed an hour and a half to see the exhibit there and make photos, then we went out, bought fish’n’chips with beer and sat on a bench, eating and contemplating the Tower Bridge, which I find just about the most interesting places in this large town.

Peter liked it in London and especially enjoyed our stroll down to the Big Ben and the Westminster Abbey. Because we were quite exhausted after that long stroll we made, we took the underground and went back to our London city holiday apartment where we had the opportunity to take a long nap and a shower, before we went out for a nice meal in the neighbourhood, as well as a stop by to the London Eye where we saw the city flooded with lights from the top.

We were living in an excellent and entirely furnished Edinburgh apartment placed in the center of the Scottish main city and my spouse usually made the breakfast, but in the course of the day we were out and kids wanted to try the fast-food obtainable. Not surprisingly my spouse was against this and actually me too, as we insist on giving our little ones with eco-friendly and natural food, so we did our very best to get them veggies and fruits as well and therefore to compensate the sandwiches purchased outside.

We definitely avoided the restaurants along the middle of the town, the Grassmarket area and the Royal Castle, because we’ve read they might be really pricey since they are oriented straight to the visitors, but we loved to dine out in the West End area and the Leith area. In the evenings we generally visited the pubs alongside the pedestrian Rose Street that is going parallel to the Princes Street and that offers lots of pubs serving great food. Most of these bars were additionally near to our Edinburgh apartment also and this made the walk home effortless and fast, which helped when the children were tired and falling asleep in our hands.

We often ordered fish and chips, deep fried pizza which is a true Scottish delight. I was into the Black Pudding that is deep fried and goes well with draught beer, while my spouse recommended the haggis meal, also deep fried.

Of course, I wanted to visit a bar or two, but with the children this was impossible to do. Therefore, I purchased a lot of beer from the supermarket, stored it in the fridge and with my wife we enjoyed a few drinks on the patio of our Edinburgh apartment soon after the kids when to bed.

The capital of Scotland for children

Soon after the festive days, I has been joined by my spouse and little ones and all of us got accommodated in a larger Edinburgh vacation apartment, once again arranged in the downtown area of the metropolis and offering much more amenities and bonuses compared to studio apartment in Edinburgh I was hiring throughout the festival.

This was the very first time me and my wife brought the kids with us and I was scared they will be bored, yet actually it turned out that the Scottish main city is a fantastic place for children, because it is easy to explore and has many monuments and leisure areas to keep them busy.

Throughout our family vacation we were taking it easy, got plenty of sleep, good breakfasts in our holiday home in Edinburgh and also had lots of hours to relish the sights. The spots we took our kids to involved the Royal Mile, where our kids run around the walkways in between the Holyroodhouse Palace and the Castle which they loved to explore. Another landmark they liked a great deal was the Arthur’s Seat, where we made an open-air picnic with the snacks my spouse made and spend some time thinking about the nature and the town below.

On another day we visited the Camera Obscura at the Outlook Tower, where the boys enjoyed the periscope and searched for the sites around Edinburgh. The same day there was rainfall in the afternoon and we spent it at the Museum of Childhood where the kids were impressed by the traditional games and gadgets.

The final 2 days we’d in the city we spent in the Edinburgh Zoo, which is outside the centre but still easily accessible from our Edinburgh holiday accommodation and in the Princes Street Gardens where the children had so much space to run and have fun.

Fun days in the capital of Scotland

I really like celebrations and for that reason Edinburgh is my city. The very first time I visited it was many years ago, after that I haven’t missed a summer. This holiday season I went for the Edinburgh International Book Festival in August and as usual I accommodated myself in an Edinburgh vacation apartment I have selected several months ago, as I knew the organization of the apartment during the celebration weeks wasn’t achievable.

My serviced apartment in Edinburgh was positioned in the centre, near to all places of interest and the areas where the festive days occurred. I was intrigued to understand about the brand new literature tendencies and to listen to excerpts from audio books that were intended to be bestsellers. The training courses were quite interesting as well, but most of my free hours were spent in the large bookselling tent where I acquired numerous books from the writers offered on the event and then waited for signing tables to exchange a few words with the authors I was mostly astounded by.

Right after a short nap and a meal in my Edinburgh holiday apartment, I was ready to enjoy my most favorite time of the day and to have a pint at the Spiegeltent, where I took part in the open conversations throughout which I normally met many new buddies.

The other event I really like to visit is the Edinburgh Fringe Festival which is the most significant alternative shows event on the planet, which celebrates art and music. This festival can be attended by every person who wants to present oneself and one’s art. The art shows are being arranged in all cinemas in the city, but as the participants are many these activities might be organized in clubs, halls, etc. During the Fringe Festival there are also many free shows and exhibitions, which I want to see too.

Visiting sites and eating out in Amsterdam

The final date in Amsterdam began well, because we got up early and went for a breakfast and a cup of coffee in the local bar which was a moment away from our Amsterdam residence. Then Michelle suggested we must check out on a special tour, known here as Walking Over Water Tour, that lasted for more than 3 hours. This trip was really worth it, since we discovered the old center of Amsterdam with the leaning houses and the sea dikes, and after that we headed to hidden monasteries and the lost city walls. I was excited by the execution sites that were once used, whilst Michelle was impressed by the Red Light District where we saw a few girls placed on display in shop glass windows. At noon we had a light lunch at one of the many small dining places along one of the lovely waterways and we tested out a brand new local kind of draught beer which was very great but I do not remember its brand.

In the evening we returned to our Amsterdam holiday apartment, because it was too hot to keep outdoors. Right after that we traveled to visit the Maritime Museum and the oldest cathedral in the city – Oude Kerk, however we kept the windmills De Otter and De Gooyer for the next day, just before the trip.

Later on on our last evening in the main city of the Netherlands, we went to a classy eating place which attracted us with its fluorescents lighting and exciting indicators. The food was great and so was the wine, that set us into the feeling of visiting a bar. Michelle liked the enchanting feeling of that place and I was astonished by the good attitude of all these people. We had a few beers and cocktails and enjoyed the music. Late at night we returned to our holiday apartment in Amsterdam and went to sleep instantly.

Thanks to Michelle I woke up the next morning by the smell of a hot cup of coffee and a great breakfast, which she created in the kitchen of our fixed Amsterdam apartment. This helped me a lot, as I had several drinks the night before and to be frank, I am not used to that much drinking.

Michelle had prepared this day for seeing the Amsterdam galleries and museums and we went towards our very first stop – the excellent Rijksmuseum, becoming the national museum of the country. The following stop on the catalog was the special Van Gogh Museum that keeps the biggest collection of art works on the earth from this excellent painter. This happened to be my location in the city, on the other hand Michelle loved most the Amsterdam Tulip Museum with its media presentations presenting the historical past of the tulip, that was near to the House of Anne Frank that we visited before that. The final spot we saw was the Sexmuseum.

I become really tired from visiting museums and galleries, therefore I really loved our snack which we ate in one of the little eateries near the Van Gogh Museum. After the prolonged day I was really happy to return to our Amsterdam family trip flat where we had a very good and sound sleep. When we woke up, I proposed Michelle to visit a inviting restaurant near a canal nearby, in which we had a typical local meal and had some beer. We concluded that Amsterdam is amongst the most spectacular and exotic spots on the continent and is also a city of variety and open-mindedness. We were looking at all those joyful people, driving their bikes, going in and out of cafes and talking about everyday problems and in a way we felt as part of this. I think at that moment we fell in love with the city and promised to come back when we can.

Initial hours in Amsterdam

Michelle and I were lovers for 1 year by now but haven’t been on a real holiday. Thus, for the 1 year anniversary I decided to astonish her and bought tickets for us for Amsterdam. Prior to accomplishing that I made a research and knew Michelle has not been there but the main city of the Netherlands was involved in her list with desired destinations.

Just as I predicted, she was very excited and she couldn’t stop laughing and planning all through the meal we had in one of the nearby restaurants. The minute we got to our house she began checking out the net and shortly she presented me a long list of moderately charged Amsterdam flats for rent, which had excellent key location and were totally equipped and fitted. We selected one that most appealed to us with regards to area, inner surface and price and did the reservation form. The next morning we had a verification and began making our visiting sites program.

The town welcomed us sun-drenched and pleasant and we located our Amsterdam vacation flat really easily. The moment we left the bags, Michelle took the map and we went for a short walk along the waterways. I might say that the most appealing area in the capital of Netherlands is the old city, that is set in a kind of a semicircle with 5 waterways and the Main Station. We made a variety of pictures in the Rokin and Damark areas and the River Amstel. Actually, equally me and Michelle lost course of time, since we were walking along the tiny narrow roads and were looking at the historic buildings and the little islands, all connected by bridges. I was surprised how relaxing life is here and we liked that feeling while dining in a little cafe, nicely organized with flowers. The beer in Amsterdam is excellent and I had several more than I should have, so we went back to our Amsterdam apartment and instantly dropped off.
